The passing of former Bantam, Steve Harney, aged 73, has been confirmed, on May 6.

A right-back, Steve represented City between 1968 and 1977, appearing 14 times.

He competed with Bradford legend, Ces Podd for a place in the team, who eventually went on to make 502 appearances for the club.

City commented: "Our thoughts are with Steve's friends, family and loved ones at this difficult time."

After departing Valley Parade in 1977, Steve joined up with Guiseley at Nethermoor and he was a valued member of the team, which had a run of success in the late 70s and early 80s winning the West Riding County Cup in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1983.

During that period the Lions also went on to win the Yorkshire League Cup in the 1979/80 campaign beating Emley 1-0 at Harney’s former home, Valley Parade.

Guiseley went on to comment: "Stephen, who was one of the many loveable characters playing at the time would continue to play for the Lions until 1984. He later went on to manage Rawdon Old Boys.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Kay and Stephen’s family and friends at this sad time."

Steve's funeral will be held at Shay Grange Crematorium (BD9 6ST) on Wednesday 29 May at 11:15am, which will be followed by a wake which will be held at Northcliffe Golf Club (BD18 4LJ).
