How many pubs are too many to stop at along a scenic walk in West Yorkshire?

Whether you’re looking for a pint pit stop, a roast dinner to fuel up on or even an inn with rooms to stay at, there are plenty of pubs to make the most of during your next adventure in the area.

From The Old Bridge Inn located just outside of Halifax to The New Inn at Eccup, here are some of the finest walks in West Yorkshire where you can find a pub or two on route.

What are the best pub walks in West Yorkshire?

The Calderdale Way - The Old Bridge Inn

It couldn’t be easier to stop off at The Old Bridge Inn for a pie of the day or selection of cheese to be washed down with a pint, as The Calderdale Way (a 50-mile route) passes by the front of this pub.

The walk has been described as “a haven for walkers” who want to explore the surrounding hills, moors and valleys by travel website Sawday’s.

Plus, it has “plenty of options to tackle in short stages”.

The website adds: “Stroll part of the route that encircles Hebden Bridge, following old packhorse trails, through the medieval hillside settlement of Heptonstall and part way along the banks of the River Calder.

@culturedale GETTING OUT ABOUT IN CALDERDALE 📍 As you probably know by now we’re all about spreading the good word of what Calderdale has to offer, with so much going on in and around the borough, we really have become a hub of culture & experiences ✨ So we’re super lucky to have a such great network of rail stopping at so many of our great towns and villages, from Halifax through to Todmorden and beyond 🚆 Which Calderdale borough is your favourite to jump on the train to? 👇#fyp #culturedale #CYOC24 #culturetiktok #halifaxuk #trainspotting #trainstation ♬ original sound - CultureDale

“Back at the pub, get comfy on old oak settles and rush-seated chairs in the small green-walled snug, order a pint in the atmospheric bar, cosy with wood burner, order a buffet lunch, or stay for an evening meal of pan seared hake or pie of the day with dripping chips. Finish with a fine selection of Yorkshire cheeses.”

Otley, Eccup and Bramhope - Junction Inn, The New Inn, The Fox and Hounds

Three pub pit stops in one walk? Sounds too good to be true.

To visit them, you need to board the X84 bus in Leeds which will drop you at Otley Bus Station where this impressive 10-mile walks begins (the good news is the X84 picks you up right at the end).

The Leeds List explains: “You can pop into the nearby Junction Inn for a pre-walk drink or get straight to it by heading along the old dismantled railway tracks. You’ll come across beautiful views as you pass Caley Hall Farm and Crags. Pause to take it all in, then head North towards Bramhope before you follow The Dales Way to the pretty village of Eccup.

“After a turn around the reservoir, nip into The New Inn for a quick pint, before you make your way back towards Bramhope, with a detour into the beautiful greenery of Golden Acre Park.

“The Fox and Hounds is ready and waiting with refreshments at the end of the route, and you don’t even have to head back to Otley because the X84 will pick you up at the bottom of the road.”

Ilkley Moor - The Cow and Calf, Friends of Ham, The Midland, the Ticket Office

You can also hop on board the X84 bus all the way to Ilkley Bus Station for a 6.3-mile walk.

This route is said to “show off some of Yorkshire’s most beautiful scenery” according to the Leeds List.

The website adds: “It’s just a short walk along Wells Road to reach the start at West View Park, where you’ll climb a small hill and join up with the Dales Way Link.

“These incredible rock formations are a sight to behold, and once you’re done, you can cross over the road to enjoy a well-deserved rest at The Cow and Calf pub.

“To get back to the start, take a leisurely walk down the hill and back into the centre of Ilkley where you can visit Friends of Ham, The Midland or the Ticket Office for a quick tipple before you make your way home.”
