A MAN was left with a serious head injury after being attacked at a bus stop.

The incident happened on Monday night and a cordon was in place while the scene was forensically examined. 

West Yorkshire Police is now appealing for information.

A spokesperson said: "At 10.35pm last night, police were contacted by the ambulance service reporting a man having been assaulted in Stanningley Road, Bramley. 

"The victim, a man in his forties, was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious head injury, that was not considered life-threatening. 

"He had been waiting at a bus stop near to the junction of Stanningley Road and Rossefield Approach at about 10.15pm when he exchanged words with a passing male who returned and punched him to the ground. 

"The suspect was described as black, about 6ft tall, and of muscular build."

The spokesperson added: "A scene was put in place to undergo forensic examination but has since been lifted, and detectives from Leeds District CID are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incident.
