WEATHER forecasters have issued a thunderstorm warning - with the possibility of floods - over the weekend.

The Met Office yellow warning - which covers Bradford - starts at noon on Sunday and ends at 10pm that day.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out.

"Some intense downpours are possible in a few places, giving up to 30mm in less than an hour and perhaps 40 to 50mm over two to three hours leading to surface water flooding.

"Hail, frequent lightning strikes and strong wind gusts will be additional localised hazards."

The warning comes as temperatures have been climbing this week.

According to the latest Met Office forecast, the mercury will hit 22C tomorrow and 21C on Sunday.

At the start of next week, however, the weather is expected to change from the current warm and settled conditions - with a return to an unsettled and showery pattern as low pressure comes back.

What to expect amid the thunderstorm warning, according to the Met Office

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

  • There is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life, particularly in places such as road and railway underpasses.

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
