BRITISH soul heroes Stone Foundation are joining music phenomenon and style icon Grace Jones for her headline show at this summer’s TK Maxx presents Live at The Piece Hall.

Grace Jones, celebrated queen of the New York disco scene, will be taking over the historic Halifax venue’s courtyard with her spectacular stage show on Saturday, June 22.

Now it is announced that the show will be opened by the Stone Foundation. Final tickets are on sale now via ticketmaster.co.uk

Stone Foundation are no strangers to The Piece Hall, having previously supported both Madness and Paul Weller there.

The Midlands-based eight piece recently celebrated 25 years of success with the release of retrospective anthology Standing In The Light.

Their last four albums all charted Top 40 in the UK Album Chart - including 2022’s critically acclaimed Outside Looking In.

Starting out in 1998 with the chance meeting of Neil Jones (guitar, vocals) and Neil Sheasby (bass), Stone Foundation spent many years on the live circuit. It was the arrival of Paul Weller-produced Street Rituals, in 2017, which was the game changer for the band. The tour to support the album included gigs at the Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury and a sold-out headline show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Changing style once again, their 2020 album Is Love Enough? featured more of a neo-soul sound. Stand-out collaborations included soul newcomers Durand Jones and Laville, as well as a spoken word meditation from Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi.

Said Neil Jones said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be joining the legend, the icon who is Grace Jones at The Piece Hall this summer. We have played this special venue a few times now and these shows are massive highlights for us. The crowds are always up for a good time and we can’t wait to return again on June 22.”

Grace Jones was one of the most audacious characters to emerge from the legendary Studio 54 nightclub in New York. Her pioneering disco classics I Need A Man and La Vie En Rose propelled her to fame.

The 1980s saw her move towards a new soul sound, blending influences across the genre on albums Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing and Living My Life. She famously reinterpreted hits from the likes of Iggy Pop, Joy Division and Sting, as well as recording original tracks such as Pull Up To The Bumper, My Jamaican Guy, and the anthem Slave To The Rhythm, with Nile Rodgers.

Grace Jones ended the 20th century as a Bond villain, screen vampire, post-modern celebrity and transformative avant-garde pop star, later returning with 2008 album Hurricane and New York Times best-selling memoir I’ll Never Write My Memoirs.

Retaining her influence over pop music into a new decade, in 2022 she curated Meltdown at London’s Southbank Centre and was the standout headliner on Beyonce’s all-star album Renaissance.

Grace Jones joins stars including Tom Jones, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Sheryl Crow, Underworld, Rick Astley, Jess Glynne, Biffy Clyro, Fatboy Slim, PJ Harvey, Underworld, Tom Odell, Pixies, IDLES, Richard Ashcroft, McFly, Loyle Carner and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds among the headliners for TK Maxx presents Live at The Piece Hall 2024.

For the first time, TK Maxx will join The Piece Hall and Cuffe and Taylor as presenting partner underscoring TK Maxx's continued support of the arts and local communities. The new presenting partnership is part of a three-year agreement with Cuffe & Taylor shows across the country including Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
