THESE were the dramatic scenes after a truck overturned in Bradford following a crash with a bridge.

The incident, which happened on Tuesday lunchtime, disrupted rail services between Bradford Interchange and Leeds for around two hours.

The crash happened at a bridge on Mill Lane, on the outskirts of the city centre.

Train operator Northern warned that train services could be cancelled or delayed due to the incident.

At the time, a Northern post on X read: "Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes."

One passenger told the T&A: "I've just been sat on a Northern rail train stuck for half an hour with no explanation from our driver."

At 2.08pm, Northern issued an update to passengers and said: "Disruption caused by a road vehicle colliding with a bridge between Leeds and Bradford Interchange has now ended.

"Services are no longer affected by this problem.”

While disruption on the rail network ended, drivers faced delays into the evening.

The lorry was still blocking the road at around 5pm, though the process of recovering the vehicle was getting underway.

Recovery vehicles from Stoneywood were at the scene and workers could be seen assessing the lorry as they prepared to extricate it from under the bridge.

Cars heading both in the direction of Wakefield Road and Manchester Road had to turn around and find alternative routes.

It is not the first time the bridge has been struck.

Back in February 2022, a lorry’s roof was ripped off after it hit the railway bridge.

And in June 2018, the roof of a double-decker bus was ripped off after it got stuck under the same bridge.

Then just a few weeks later, the same thing happened again when a lorry got stuck under the bridge.
