A MAN has avoided jail for carrying a knife at a hospital and police station in Bradford.

Hussam Alshamry, 20, of no fixed abode was sentenced for two counts of possession of a knife blade or sharp-pointed article in a public place at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on April 18.

He pleaded guilty to one of the counts on the same day and the other at an earlier hearing.

Alshamry was caught with a knife at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI), in Duckworth Lane on November 22 last year.

The 20-year-old then had a kitchen knife on him at Trafalgar House Police Station, in Nelson Street on December 20, 2023.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to surrender to police or court bail at the appointed time at separate hearings and was sentenced for those offences.

The magistrates handed Alshamry a prison sentence of nine months, suspended for 18 months in total for the four offences.

The sentence was suspended because there is a "realistic prospect of rehabilitation", according to court records.

Alshamry was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work within the next year.

He also must complete up to 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.
