There were dramatic scenes as the air ambulance landed in Bowling Park after the crash.

It was seen on one of the football pitches bordering Parkside Road, after circling around the West Bowling area for several minutes.

Some distance away, on the other side of a mini-roundabout, a dark-coloured car had come to rest near the side of the road, with its front end severely caved-in.

A cordon had been put in place across the street, with police standing guard at either end and officers working within it to establish the circumstances surrounding the smash.

The ambulance service said it received an emergency call at 4.04pm to a collision involving one car.

“Two ambulances, an air ambulance and team leader were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed by road to Bradford Royal Infirmary,” a spokesperson said.

A significant number of people, including children, had gathered at the end of the cordon, curious as to what had taken place.

One onlooker said: “I was just walking past and saw a big incident.

“I was in shock and wondering what had happened.

“I hope they’re well, it’s a very big incident.”

One resident said: “There’s been serious accident on Gaythorne Road and what’s happened is that there was no landing space nearby so it has safely landed here (in Bowling Park),” said the onlooker.

“I seen it land here. I hope everything alright and I hope the person who is hurt is okay,” he added.
