A "BORING" room at a mental health hospital in Bradford has been transformed into a place patients now love.

The room at Cygnet Hospital Bierley was formerly used as a tuck shop every now and again but was described as "lacking in energy".

But now, staff at the hospital have helped to transform the room into a thriving social hub.

It includes funky lighting, eye-catching decorations, arcade machines and a PlayStation 5 with games.

Javaid Razzaq, involvement lead at the hospital, said: "The room used to be boring.

"Not much activity was going on and it was a place lacking energy and in need of a makeover.

"But we turned the room around in a couple of days with the help of service users.

"Now it is somewhere they go to relax and enjoy themselves - they feel at home here.

"It's a room known as the 'ultimate off ward experience' for service users - it's getting amazing feedback.

"It's become a place they can go to when the wards are getting too much or when they just want to wind down and have some fun.

"It has changed the way the hospital works and has increased engagement to another level.

"We're all delighted with it."

He also thanked Raf Hamaizia, expert by experience at Cygnet, who offered "amazing support" to the team to refurbish the room.
