A VETERAN fundraiser raised over £1,300 for a hospital neonatal unit by walking 101 laps of City Park - the equivalent of around 25 miles.

92-year-old Jeffrey Long MBE met with staff at the BRI to see the giant cheque which is going to the Bradford Hospitals Charity ‘Big Neonatal Appeal.’

The charity, part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is working alongside one of the Trust’s hospitals, Bradford Royal Infirmary to build a ‘home-from-home’ for families attending the neonatal unit.

It will care for babies born too early or those with illnesses.

The Neonatal Unit cares for more than 500 premature and poorly babies each year.

Four of the ex-paratrooper's grandchildren received care from Bradford Royal Infirmary’s Neonatal Unit.

Great-grandfather Jeffrey, who lives in Bingley, has single-handedly raised more than £300,000 for various charities over the past 15 years.
