BRADFORD'S tradition of real ale brewing and high number of pubs contributed to it being named among the best nightlife cities in the UK, according to a new study.

BonusFinder.co.uk has analysed several major party cities, evaluating them based on their number of pubs, hotels, bars, casinos and nightclubs per 10,000 residents.

The study also examined the average price of a pint and hotel stay.

Bradford At Night - an organisation which has supported the night-time economy since its launch in 2020 - says the city "holds a uniqueness to its nightlife, with a significant number of independent bars and venues, operated by some of the city’s most passionate and dedicated individuals".

Bradford inside the top 10

Bradford ranks tenth among the best party cities in the UK, earning a high score of 8.50 out of 10.

A spokesperson for BonusFinder.co.uk said: "Nicknamed the curry capital of the UK, Bradford has a strong tradition of real ale brewing and boasts several pubs serving a wide selection of locally brewed beers.

"Bradford made it into the top ten due to its high number of pubs, with 15.90 per 10,000 residents and its cheap pint prices at just £4.20."

Brighton and Hove is officially the UK’s party capital followed by Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, according to the study.

London is ranked the worst due to its expensive costs, such as £6.50 for a pint and £209 for a hotel stay.

'Bradford holds a uniqueness to its nightlife'

Tom Walling, one of the directors at Bradford at Night, was pleased to see the results of the study.

He said: "Nightlife in Bradford does not fit the big city stereotypes, we don’t have big nightclubs and huge chains.

"However, Bradford holds a uniqueness to its nightlife, with a significant number of independent bars and venues, operated by some of the city’s most passionate and dedicated individuals."

Mr Walling added: "Critics will always be the first to throw mud at the night economy in Bradford, but over the past few years, we’ve seen first-hand the resilience and enthusiasm to make a change to what nightlife can be in Bradford - and to not fit within a stereotype needs to start being seen as a positive for the future, not a negative holding us back.

"Being recognised in this study truly shows their hard work and commitment which the city should be proud of.

"Bradford may not be everyone’s go-to destination, but it holds a strong tradition as the survey mentions real ale brewing and above all else real Yorkshire hospitality."
