A RESIDENT has hit out at fly-tipping on a rural lane and claims it is only “going to get so much worse” after the closure of a nearby tip.
Bradford Council said it is aware of the fly-tipping on a footpath off Cockin Lane, which runs between Queensbury and Clayton, and is investigating the source of the waste.
A local, who wished to remain anonymous, first spotted the rubbish last Saturday.
She said she felt the problem was "going to get so much worse" following the recent closure of the council-run Queensbury tip.
Ford Hill Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), in Hill End Lane closed on March 31 alongside Sugden End, in Keighley and Golden Butts, in Ilkley.
Bradford Council was heavily criticised for the decision but said the Ford Hill site was “one of the least used household waste recycling centres”.
The closures overall will save £900,000 a year, as the council attempts to deal with extreme financial pressure in the coming years.
The Telegraph & Argus visited Cockin Lane, which is less than two miles from where the old tip was, on Monday.
More waste had been dumped since last Saturday, including items in the fields on either side of the path.
The resident said: “The fly-tipping is going to get worse, there's nothing to deter people no cameras, no nothing, and yes I absolutely do think the tip closure has had a massive impact, it was always busy with local residents.
“It actually makes my blood boil, why do we bother paying council taxes, when the council don't care.”
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of this fly-tipping and our team is investigating if it is on private or public land.
“In addition, the Environmental Enforcement Team is investigating to establish the source of the waste and enforcement action will be taken where possible.
“The waste appears to be commercial waste which should be taken to one of the Household Waste Recycling Centres at Bowling Back Lane, Bradford or Royd Ings, Keighley, or disposed of via a registered waste carrier.
“The closure of Ford Hill HWRC will not have prevented this commercial scale of fly-tipping by people who disregard the law.
“There is no need to fly tip any waste and it’s disappointing that someone feels it is alright to deposit their waste and spoil the environment for everyone, rather than travel a few miles further to take it to HWRC or use a registered waste carrier."
