A ROAD was closed this morning after a car crashed into a gas main.

West Yorkshire Police were called just before 10.30am in relation to the incident on Illingworth Road in Halifax.

First Bus said it caused Tewit Lane to shut meaning their 521, 522, and 523 services were diverted via Natty Lane, Illingworth Road, and Keighley Road.

Officers shut the road as they awaited the attendance of a gas engineer.

The force left the scene when the Telegraph & Argus asked for an update at 12.30pm.

A spokesperson for the force: "Police received a report at 10:20am this morning that a car had been in collision with a small gas main.

"Police closed the road pending the attendance of a gas engineer. The police have now left the scene."
