A LEARNER driver from Bradford was caught speeding on a motorway without insurance.

Herish Hassan, 41, of Old Farm Crescent, in Flockton Road, East Bowling was found guilty of four driving offences at Sheffield Magistrates' Court last Friday.

These included: exceeding a variable speed limit, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance, and being a learner driver when driving a vehicle while on motorway.

Hassan was recorded going 59 miles per hour in a 50mph zone heading north on the M1, near junction 35 (Sheffield), by an automatic camera device just before midnight on January 1 this year.

He was in a black Audi A4 and had no insurance, while also being the holder of a provisional licence with no L plates showing, court records show.

It is an offence to drive on the motorway as a learner.

The court handed Hassan eight penalty points on his driving licence for the offences.

He was also ordered to pay £1,014.

This included a £660 fine, a surcharge of £264 to fund victim services, and £90 in costs.

Hassan must pay this by May 3.
