RESIDENTS in a house that was being burgled could "smell burning", heard a door being kicked, and then watched as several men drove off in one of their cars.

West Yorkshire Police was called to a report of a burglary in Moorside Gardens, Eccleshill, Bradford in the early hours of Monday morning.

A spokesperson for the force said two to three men broke into a house on the street between 2.50am and 2.55am and took car keys.

They then made off in a grey Volkswagen Polo that belonged to someone in the house.

One of the residents in the property, who wished to remain anonymous, said they could "smell burning from upstairs" and when they went downstairs the back door was "wide open".

Another said they heard someone kick the door, which woke them up.

Two of those in the house looked out of their bedroom window at this point and saw the suspects getting into the car.

They knocked on the window and shouted at them but the men made off from the driveway.
