A ONCE-popular walkway linking Hall Ings to Bradford Interchange Bus Station on Bridge Street may soon be closed.

The Secretary of State has proposed to employ an order under Section 247 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to authorise the closure to enable the planned redevelopment of the site (planning reference 23/02956/MAF), which is already underway.

The Hall Ings pathway has for many years been a well-used pedestrian route in the city centre. It's closure forms part of a wider scheme including the pedestrianisation of Hall Ings.

Details of the draft order and a plan are accessible at the Bradford Council’s offices, Centenary Square, BD1 1HX. These documents will be open for public scrutiny and freely available until Tuesday April 30. Those interested in further details can contact the department quoting NATTRAN/Y&H/S247/5648.

The public has been given the right to contest the proposal. Objections or concerns can be sent to the Secretary of State either by email to nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk or in writing to National Transport Casework Team at Tyneside House, Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 7AR quoting the reference number. The last day for receipt of objections is April 30.

In separate notifications, various traffic orders will affect Bradford’s streets in the second week of April.

On Sunday April 14, from 8am until noon, Randall Well Street will be closed to vehicles. This brief closure is the result of water works at Randall Well Street, approximately 40 metres from its junction with Great Horton Road.

Pedestrian access will be unaffected, and alternative routes for vehicles have been arranged via the unaffected section of Randall Well Street and Great Horton Road.

Closure will also apply to the length of Back Lane, Clayton Heights, from its junction with Highgate Road to Julian Drive. This order will begin at 8am on Monday April 15 until 6pm on Friday May 3, 2024, due to gas works on the lane.

Pedestrian access will remain open and vehicles can navigate through the unaffected section of Back Lane, Baldwin Lane, and Highgate Road.

Construction works proposed on or near Dirkhill Road, Bradford will mean the temporary closure of Dirkhill Road from its junction with Horton Park Avenue to its junction with All Saints Road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Alternative routes for traffic affected by the order will be available via Horton Park Avenue, Laisteridge Lane, All Saints Road and vice versa.

The order will come into effect at 8am on Monday April 15 and remain in force until 3.30pm hours on Friday April 19.
