POLICE who searched a man spotted dealing drugs on the street found wraps of heroin and crack cocaine inside a Kinder egg in a bag he was wearing.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Waqas Ahmed was part of an established drugs line when he was arrested at around 11am on December 5, 2022.

Prosecutor Anthony Moore told the court that police were operating in Keighley when they spotted a woman who looked like a class A drug user.

He said she appeared to be looking and waiting for a particular vehicle in Spencer Street.

About five minutes later Ahmed pulled alongside her in a VW Golf and what appeared to be a drug transaction took place.

He then got out of the car and went into an address on Spencer Street.

A few minutes later he was seen to leave the house on two separate occasions and to go to two vehicles that had pulled up nearby. More drug deals took place.

When he left the house a third time he was detained by police.

Mr Moore said: “He began shouting towards the property he had come out of in an Asian language.”

Ahmed was found to be wearing a man bag containing a mobile phone, £290 in cash, and a Kinder egg in which were hidden eight wraps of heroin and four wraps of crack cocaine worth a total of £120.

A second mobile phone was found in his pocket that contained messages and texts indicating drug dealing and an established drugs line with regular customers.

Police said the fact that the phone was receiving messages directly from customers suggested that the holder of the phone was more actively involved than simply being a low-level drug runner.

Ahmed was arrested at the scene. During an interview later that day he replied “no comment” to all questions.

He later pleaded guilty to possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

Mitigating, Glenn Parsons said 29-year-old Ahmed, who lived on Spencer Street, was set up to monitor a phone and to make deliveries of drugs but was handing a large amount of the money he was making to other people.

He added: “He took this ill-fated step of selling drugs to try and make ends meet, which has ended in this disaster for him.”

In sentencing Ahmed, Mrs Recorder Taryn Turner said his offending was aggravated by a conviction for drug dealing in 2017, for which he was jailed.

She said: “You quite candidly - with the conviction you hold from 2017 - clearly had awareness and understanding of the operation you were engaged in.

“This was street-level dealing of class A drugs, and a significant role.”

She jailed Ahmed for three years on each count, to run concurrently, and warned him: “Next time [there will be] a mandatory sentence starting at seven years, you understand that?”

She ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs and phones seized and the forfeiture of the £290 cash.
