A NEW play charting the life of Westminster’s youngest MP at a time when women couldn’t even vote is coming to Bingley.
Mikron Theatre is bringing Jennie Lee, a new play by Lindsay Rodden, to Bingley Arts Centre on Tuesday, April 16.
Featuring original songs and an integrated audio description, the play follows the extraordinary life of the Scottish politician.
Despite being the first Minister for the Arts and founder of the Open University, many people will never have heard about her work.
Jennie Lee left her coal-mining family in Scotland and took a seat in Westminster in 1929.
She believed in equal access to good wages, health, and housing, as well as art and education.
Jennie, whose husband was the founder of the NHS Nye Bevan, also helped expand the Arts Council.
Tickets cost £16 while concessions pay £14. A family ticket is also available.
