LATEST NEWS: New photos of NCP car park show demolition is 'rapidly progressing'

THE demolition of the former NCP car park on Hall Ings in Bradford city centre is now well underway.

Diggers can be seen on the roof of the building, which is now covered in screens and scaffold protection panels.

Demolition equipment has been winched into place on the rooftop of the former car park.

The next phase of the work involves workers bringing down each floor individually until April, the Council said.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

At this point, long reach machines will work from the ground floor and break up and remove the remaining levels of the car park.

It has been hailed as the “latest step in the transformation of the city centre to make it a nicer place for people to spend time.”

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “The demolition of the former NCP car park is just the latest step in the transformation of the city centre to make it a nicer place for people to spend time.”

The NCP car park demolition is expected to be complete by the end of July.

The former car park is being demolished to create a new green space creating a new link to Hall Ings and Norfolk Gardens.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “This marks an important step forward in the transformation of Bradford city centre in the lead up to UK City of Culture 2025.

“Together we’re making it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport, creating a better environment for everyone.

“A Bradford city centre fit for the 21st century is a key part of my vision for a better-connected West Yorkshire.”

How are the city centre roadworks being funded?

The funding for the project is part of the overall work being undertaken to make the city centre an easier, safer and more pleasant place for people to walk and cycle.

The scheme is being delivered in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, through its Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) programme.

TCF is aimed at making it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport.

This is a capital grant transport fund, provided by the Department for Transport and cannot be used for other purposes, such as delivering day to day council services or other projects.
