A LONG-ESTABLISHED Bradford church will celebrate its 150th anniversary next month.

Sunday, March 10, will see St John’s Church, on Saint Street, celebrating its 150th anniversary as the parish church of Great Horton, Bradford.

To mark the occasion, it is holding an open day on Saturday, March 9, from 11am to 4pm.

There will be guided tours, displays, a pop-up café and an organ recital at 2.30pm.

Rev Canon John Bavington, vicar of St John’s since 2013, said: "We thank God that St John's Great Horton has been at the heart of our community for 150 years and we pray that we can continue for another 150 years.

"All are very welcome to come to our open day on Saturday, March 9, and see this marvellous building for themselves.”

The anniversary day on Sunday, March 10, will be marked by a special service of thanksgiving led by the Bishop of Leeds, Right Revd Nick Baines, who worshipped at St John’s during his student days at the University of Bradford.

March 10 is also Mothering Sunday, traditionally the day when people return to their mother churches and anyone connected to St John’s over the years is invited to join the congregation for this celebratory weekend.
