THERE will be a series of overnight closures on the M606 in the coming weeks.

The closures are being put in place so National Highways can make safety improvements.

From March 4, road markings and studs are being refreshed between Junction 1 (Chain Bar) and Junction 3 (Staygate).

What you need to know about the closures

  • The closures will begin with six weeknight closures on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 3 and 1, between 8pm on March 4 and 6am on March 12.
  • The work will then switch to the northbound carriageway, with closures in place between junctions 1 and 3 each weeknight from March 12, with the final closure due to end at 6am on March 21.
  • Each closure will be in place between 8pm and 6am the following morning.
  • No work will be carried out on Saturday or Sunday nights. All work is weather-dependent.
  • While closures are in place, fully signposted diversions will be in place via the M62, A650 and A6177, said a spokesperson for National Highways.
