TWO crashes on the same stretch of the M62 have caused delays for drivers this morning. 

According to earlier traffic alerts, one lane was closed and there was slow traffic due to a crash on the M62 westbound between Junction 24 A629 (Ainley Top) and Junction 23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield).

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 8.28am on Thursday morning to report a collision involving one vehicle on the M62 westbound between junctions 23 and 22. 

"An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary."

While traffic alerts now say the westbound incident has now been resolved, another crash has been reported on the eastbound stretch of the M62, near Junction 24.

The traffic alert said there is "queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to an accident on the M62 eastbound at Junction 24 A629 (Ainley Top)".

It says: "Lanes two and three (of three) remain closed."

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Police said of the eastbound crash: "We were called at 9.26am to a two-vehicle road traffic collision. No further details are known."

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 9.28am on Thursday morning to report a collision on the M62 westbound close to Junction 24.

"An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary."

In regards to the westbound carriageway, the police spokesperson said: "There have been a few damage only collisions and breakdowns which have caused a bit of traffic on that stretch of motorway."

A picture shows traffic is now flowing on the westbound carriageway, however, traffic travelling eastbound towards Bradford and Leeds is backed up and moving slowly.

Traffic alerts are also reporting that there are long delays and two lanes closed due to broken down vehicle on M62 Eastbound at Junction 24 A629 (Ainley Top).

The congestion is backed up to Junction 22 (Rishworth Moor).
