A POLICE investigation into a shooting incident in a West Yorkshire town has led to a series of arrests.

There was concern after a large cordon was put in place in the heart of the picturesque town on Friday night (February 16).

The incident happened on Dunford Road, close to the junction with South Lane, at around 9.50pm.

Specialist officers at West Yorkshire Police have been conducting enquiries in the Meltham and Holmfirth areas.

A 21-year-old man was arrested but he has since been released on police bail.

In the latest update, officers said two further men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences in relation to the incident.

These men remain in police custody.     

The shooting is being treated as an isolated, and targeted incident.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses, footage and information.

In a statement released on Wednesday, a spokesperson said: "Police investigating a firearms discharge in Holmfirth have made further arrests as enquiries continue.

"Specialist officers have been conducting enquiries in the Meltham and Holmfirth areas over the last few days following a discharge on Dunford Road, close to the junction with South Lane, at around 9.50pm on Friday, February 16.

"Two further men have now been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences in relation to the incident, and remain in custody.

"A 21-year-old man, who was previously arrested, has been released on police bail.

"Officers have been conducting reassurance patrols in the Holmfirth area following the shooting which is being treated as an isolated, and targeted incident.
