COUNCILLORS have approved several traffic orders – including double yellow lines - but there have been questions over how easy it will be for the council to enforce them.

Bradford Council’s five Area Committees – each representing a constituency in the district, have started looking at how safer road budgets will be spent in the coming year.

The Bradford South Committee approved several traffic orders at its last meeting, including double yellow lines at the junction of Scarlett Heights and Park Lane in Queensbury and double yellows at three corners at the junction of Mayfield Ave/Mayfield Place in the Wyke ward.

Chair of the Committee, councillor David Green (Lab, Wibsey) pointed out that as things stand, the cash-strapped council may struggle to enforce these new traffic regulations while having to cut its costs at the same time.

He said: “Once we do the physical work we have to do the enforcement work as well.

“That is something we need to look at due to the financial distress the council is in.

“We have to look at different ways to use the resources we have to discourage people from breaking highways rules and regulations.

“Maybe we have to look at a more coordinated approach to enforcement.

“I know the issue of enforcement is one that frustrates all elected Councillors and residents.”
