SIX vehicles, including two motorbikes, were involved in a major crash at a busy junction yesterday (Friday).

Emergency services, including multiple police vehicles and ambulance service resources, responded to the crash scene which occurred just after 3pm yesterday at the junction of New North Road and Leeds Road in Heckmondwike. Four people were injured in the crash.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police were called at 3:05pm yesterday (Friday, February 16) to reports of a collision on New North Road, Heckmondwike, involving multiple vehicles.

"Two motorcyclists were seriously injured in the collision and taken to hospital. Both are receiving treatment for serious injuries which are not understood to be life threatening. Two other people involved in the collision also received medical treatment.

"From enquiries at the scene, it is understood that an initial collision has taken place involving a van and two motorcycles, with the vehicles involved then further colliding with three other vehicles."

A full statement from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which was released yesterday, said: "We received an emergency call at 3.03pm Friday to a report of a multiple-vehicle collision at the junction of New North Road and Leeds Road in Heckmondwike.

"A number of ambulance resources, including four ambulances and one air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene.

"Two patients were conveyed to Leeds General Infirmary and two patients were conveyed to Dewsbury Hospital. All went by road."
