TWO Bradford schools are celebrating after securing Government funding enabling them to move to the next stage of remediating crumbling concrete in their buildings.

Christ Church Academy, located on Wrose Brow Road in Windhill, and Baildon Church of England Primary School, on Coverdale Way, adopted alternative learning provisions for pupils after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) was identified in parts of the their buildings last September.

The schools, which are part of the Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust (BDAT), have now announced they have landed Government funding to cover the next stage of RAAC remediation, with much of the intrusive work scheduled to go ahead next week during half-term.

As part of the work, the RAAC-impacted areas will also get a full facelift with newly-decorated classrooms, environmentally-friendly lighting, upgraded ICT equipment, new catering facilities and improved social spaces.

The funding means the schools will be able to reopen all of their buildings in full during the summer term.

Carol Dewhurst, chief executive officer at BDAT, said: "We are really pleased that we can move forward to open up the improved education and leaning facilities in full in both Christ Church and Baildon this summer.

"A lot of hard work has gone on across the BDAT and school teams to find a solution."
