A HOUSING group has apologised after several floors of a high-rise block of flats in Keighley were without communal lighting for a weekend.

The incident occurred at Incommunities' nine-storey Ebor Court, in Westgate Gardens.

"The fault was reported on the Friday afternoon but tenants were told no one could attend until after the weekend," says one resident.

"Elderly tenants and some with mobility issues live on the affected floors, where essential fire escape lighting was also out, meaning they would struggle to see across dark hallways in the event of an emergency.

"Unfortunately, this was the third time in a 12-month period that the landlord, Incommunities, had failed to respond to calls for urgent repairs."

A spokesperson for Incommunities told the Keighley News: "We are aware that there were issues with the communal lighting at Ebor Court and our 'waking watch' team reported this immediately to the out-of-hours helpline.

"We appointed a specialist contractor and the lights were fixed on Monday, February 5.

"We would like to apologise to all the customers for the inconvenience that was caused.

"If customers require assistance with any matter, please call us on 0330 175 9540 and we will do our best to help."
