A BUILDING is undergoing a 'high-spec refurbishment' to transform it into a beauty salon.

Greengates-based Northedge Installation Group, an internal fit-out/refurbishment company, purchased the former accountant’s building on Bradford Road, near the heart of Idle.

Northedge director Joe Wade said: “This one will be a really high standard refurbishment.

“We purchased it through auction, as the building was owned by an accountant who retired and wanted to sell up.

“It will be a complete refresh both internally and externally with new signage outside.

“We went through Robert Watts estate agents and bought it at auction."

Joe said the building has "good character" and added: “We bought it at auction for £70,000, so it was a cracking buy. We got it at well under market value.

“We purchased it about four months ago and as soon as we got the keys we cracked on with it.

“We’re spending £20,000 on doing it up, and we’ll rent it out.

“This is the latest addition to our ongoing property portfolio.

“It’s going be a beauty salon. We’re going to renovate it back to a modern property.

“It’s a back-to-brick refurbishment, so we removed all the walls and are starting again.

“It’s an older building, so it had a lot of pokey little rooms, but we’re making four new rooms and there’s a big storage space in the cellar. It’s really spacious inside.

“We’re doing it really high spec, so it will be amazing when we’re all done.”

Mr Wade said there has been a lot of interest from locals in the refurbishment.

He said: “We’ve had several people walking by in Idle asking what we’re doing with the building.

“One woman said she worked in the building for 45 years.”

Mr Wade said Northedge, which is run by him and fellow director Craig Riddiough, has gone from “strength to strength” since it was established five years ago.

Northedge carries out internal refurbishments at commercial properties, schools, food manufacturers, and corporate businesses. It  also works with many estate agents covering all trades.

The Greengates firm is aiming to have the old Idle accountant’s property ready in six weeks.
