THE recent storms, Isha and Jocelyn, caused havoc across the UK.

Back in February 1962 there was, the T&A reported, a “night of terror” when severe gales tore through the district.

On February 12, 1962 the T&A reported that 1,000 council houses were damaged, buildings had collapsed, windows were shattered, tiles were ripped off roofs and garage roofs were blown off.

At Bradford Park Avenue three of the four 120ft pylons crashed to the ground as the ‘tornado’ swept through.

Pictured here is some of the damage caused by the gales, 62 years ago this month.
