A SUSPENSION bridge over the River Wharfe was closed last week because of flooding.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority said the bridge, which is on the Dales Way long distance path at Hebden, near Grassington, was closed after one of the supporting cables snapped under pressure of the water. It was hoped repairs would be made quickly.
A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority said: "The bridge suffered some flood damage last week with one of the supporting cables snapping. An emergency closure was put in place and the bridge is closed to the public.
"Contractors have been appointed to undertake repairs and we are hoping that this will be done this week, however we cannot guarantee this. They need to source the new cable and get on site when the weather allows."
The 80 mile Dales Way path runs from Ilkley to Bowness-on-Windermere and follows a lot of riverside paths.
