A Chinese takeaway, bakery, and fish and chip shops have been named among Yorkshire’s ‘punniest’ shop names.

The search for the best wordplay in retail was launched by language learning platform, Babbel.

A fish and chip shop called the Frying Nemo in Goole won the regional title.

But there were plenty of pun-tastic shops in the running - including a paint and decorating business called Luther Van Gloss.

The list failed to celebrate any of Bradford’s best 'punny' shop names - despite potential options like the In Plaice and Buttylicious.

To get the shortlist, Babbel analysed TikTok, Instagram, X (Twitter), and Facebook to identify the different UK shops.

The team looked for teams with clever or amusing puns in their names and those most frequently celebrated on social media.

A shortlist of 120 stores was put to a vote in November 2023 to January 2024.

In second and third place in the vote are Harlech-based clothing shop Damsel In This Dress and removal company, Jean Claude Van Man, from Southport.
