A HISTORIC Bradford hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment.

The landmark Grade II-listed Midland Hotel is on Cheapside - across the road from The Broadway shopping centre.

It was bought by the Britannia Hotels chain last April after being put on the market for £3 million.

The hotel, which is still open as normal, is having work done on its French Ballroom and restaurant for the "next couple of months".

A Facebook post on Bradford BID's Facebook page said: "Exciting news from The Midland Hotel Bradford that their restaurant and French ballroom are currently under refurbishment for the next couple of months.

"The hotel is still open as normal.

"We can't wait to see the finished result."

Bradford at Night said: "How exciting for such an iconic venue dating back to 1885 in the city centre to be given a new lease of life ahead of a fantastic year ahead."

The Midland Hotel Bradford Facebook page added: "Watch this space."

Located next to Bradford Forster Square Station, the hotel was built by the Midland Railway Company.

Former guests of the Midland have included Laurel and Hardy, The Beatles, Sean Connery, George Formby, Bram Stoker, JB Priestley, Winston Churchill and Harold Wilson.
