NEW electric car charging bays could be installed at a filling station on one of Bradford’s busiest roads.

A planning application to create eight EV bays at the Shell station on Rooley Lane has been submitted to Bradford Council, with the company saying it aims to “meet the needs of modern motorists.”

The station it the closest filling station to the M606 entrance and exit.

The bays will include four located along the southern boundary and four bays located on the eastern boundary of the site.

Two jet wash bays will be removed to make way for the charging spaces, as will two petrol pumps.

The application says: “The site comprises an existing petrol filling station, however the opportunity exists to enhance to the offer with the provision of an EVC hub to better meet the needs of motorists.

“Over recent years there has been a rise in electric vehicle ownership and support and therefore the site needs upgrading to increase the provision of electric vehicle bays to ensure the needs of modern motorists are met.

“The visitation rates to the site are expected to be largely unchanged as site users will switch from petrol/diesel refuelling to EVC as the type of car ownership changes.”

A decision on the application is expected next month.
