SKIPTON-based My Expedition Rocks and the town's Pennine Cruisers have enjoyed five minutes of fame thanks to television's Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes.

In June last year, the businesses were invited to be part of Robson's adventures, in which for the trip he was joined by brother, David, and uncle, Matheson Green.

The series aims to show viewers 'roads less travelled' in the north east and to highlight adventures hiding on their doorsteps, with the Dales version including Ribblehead, climbing, and a weekend spent on a canal barge, negotiating locks, and typical Yorkshire downpours.

Programme makers say: "Taking the cross-country route they stop to marvel at the Ribblehead Viaduct and remember those who built it. Picking up their 58-foot home for the weekend the trio jump into life in the slow lane. Learning to navigate the Leeds and Liverpool canal with its locks and swing bridges in a downpour, has its testing moments and its humour."

Robson joined the My Expedition Rocks team for a much brighter day to abseil the Ilkley 'Cow' - of the Cow and Calf Rocks.

John Rocks, of My Expedition Rocks, said: "The trio completed the 18m descent in style, even though David and Matheson had never done an abseil before."

Zoe Clarke, of Pennine Cruisers, said the film crew was with them for two days, with the first of the two days, being almost totally wiped out by rain. The second day was slightly better and Robson and the team boated to Gargrave, where they carried out some filming, before heading back to Skipton.

Zoe said: "It was really bouncing with rain, but its just one of those things, that is Yorkshire weather; but apart from that, everything went to plan, and they seemed to enjoy themselves.

"It was funny seeing people on the towpath, thinking 'is that him'."

She added that the team seemed genuinely interested in the area and the boats and seemed to have a good time, despite the weather.

My Expedition Rocks has delivered outdoor adventures in the area for more than five years and specialises in rock climbing and abseiling at sites such as the Ilkley Cow and Calf, Almscliffe Crag and Brimham Rocks.

It also runs an outdoor rock climbing club for young people and monthly abseil sessions from March to October, find out more at: www.myexpeditionrocks.com; for details about what Pennine Cruisers has to offer, visit: www.penninecruisers.com Watch Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes on BBC iPlayer
