A MAN has been charged with harassment after police rushed to a property.

West Yorkshire Police was called to the scene of a property in Wakefield Road, Brighouse on Saturday morning, just before 12pm.

Officers found "a man in distress" there and spent almost seven hours dealing with the situation.

A negotiator was called to the scene, as there were "concerns" for the man's safety.

Police arrested the man after the situation was brought to a safe conclusion.

Robert Beldon, 62, of Blackburn Buildings, Brighouse, has since been charged with harassment offences.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

A trial has been set for February 20 at Leeds Magistrates Court and Beldon will have a bail application hearing at Bradford Magistrates Court on January 15.

A full statement from West Yorkshire Police said: "A man was arrested following an incident at a property on Wakefield Road, Brighouse, on Saturday, 6 January.

"Police were called at 11.51am and on attendance found a man in distress within the property.

"There were concerns for his safety and a police negotiator attended at the scene.

"The incident was brought to a safe conclusion at around 6.30pm.

"The man has since been charged with harassment offences."
