A CANNABIS farm was found inside a commercial property in Bradford following a fire over the weekend.

The blaze occurred at the property on Spring Mill Street, just outside the city centre, at around 10am on Saturday.

It was firefighters who discovered a "suspicious" amount of cannabis in the building.

West Yorkshire Police officers were then requested to secure the scene.

The fire was extinguished and both emergency services left the property just before 1pm.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 10.14am on Saturday, January 6 about smoke coming out of a building on Spring Mill Road in Bradford.

"We sent two crews from Bradford and one from Odsal, who arrived at the scene at 10.18am.

"Upon arrival, a suspicious amount of cannabis was found.

"West Yorkshire Police was requested to attend to secure the scene.

"The fire was extinguished, and we left the scene with West Yorkshire Police at 12.54pm."

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "We were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Spring Mill Street at 10.59am on Saturday, January 6.

"Officers discovered a cannabis farm.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
