THE driver of a company van who ran a red light on a major Bradford road no longer works for the business, it has emerged.

Dashboard footage obtained by the Telegraph & Argus shows a vehicle bypassing waiting traffic at roadworks on Wrose Road last month.

West Yorkshire Police say they are making enquiries into the incident.

The van in question belongs to Auto parts store Maxwize Motor Factors which is based on Otley Road in Undercliffe.

Maxwize told the Telegraph & Argus they were "unaware of this incident".

They added: "The driver in question no longer works for the company."

The incident occurred at around 2.15pm on December 12, 2023.

On the 12-second clip, the van can be seen swerving around a car waiting at the temporary traffic lights.

The driver apparently ignores or does not see the sign next to the light which reads: "Wait here until the green light shows".

Paul Jeffrey, Manager of the Casualty Prevention and Central Process Bureau at West Yorkshire Police, has encouraged drivers to use Operation SNAP to report such incidents.

It is a portal on the West Yorkshire Police website where drivers can submit footage which brings traffic offences to the attention of officers.

In the last eight months, the force has received more than 6200 submissions and over 70 per cent have resulted in further action being taken.

Mr Jeffrey told the Telegraph & Argus: “Dashcam footage is playing an important role in supporting enforcement activity against dangerous drivers.

"Operation SNAP provides the public with an easy-to-use dedicated portal they can use to bring traffic offences to the attention of the police.

“Since April 2023, we have received over 6200 submissions and over 70 per cent have resulted in further action being taken.

"Improving driver behaviour through referral of driver offenders to accredited courses as an alternative to prosecution is used in less serious cases, whereas fixed penalty or a court appearance remains an option for more serious or repeated offending.

“We would encourage anyone who captures digital footage of dangerous driving or other traffic offences to consider reporting it to the police using the online reporting option on the West Yorkshire Police website.

“Operation SNAP, together with enforcement activity by police officers, is part of a range of interventions delivered through local safe roads partnership arrangement that reflect the West Yorkshire Vizion Zero ambition to prevent all road deaths by 2040.”
