POLICE have issued an update after the bomb squad was called following the discovery of a suspicious object in a property.

A large cordon, stretching more than 100 metres, was placed on Keighley Road in Illingworth for the majority of Saturday.

It came after the execution of a warrant at a property on Natty Lane, Illingworth, this past Thursday.

Two people were arrested from two addresses on suspicion of firearms offences.

When the Telegraph & Argus visited the scene, several roads were closed and a huge police presence surrounded the area.

Residents were asked to evacuate their properties and go to Illingworth Sports and Social Club as a precaution while an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was deployed to the scene.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police issued on Sunday said: "Following the destruction of a suspicious object at an address on Keighley Road in Illingworth, Calderdale Police would like to update any residents not yet aware, that all police scenes at the location have now been taken down.

"Anyone who is still away from their home is free to return.

"Officers again thank residents for their understanding and patience while this operation was carried out and apologise for any disruption it may have caused."
