BRADFORD Council has been asked what it is doing to stop conflict between dog trainers and the public in Council-owned parks.

Councillor Kevin Warnes (Green, Shipley) fears that the use of public parks by dog trainers could “endanger other park users and their pets.”

In a question to Council bosses, he asked what was being done to prevent such conflicts.

A response from the Council Executive said: “If dog trainers are acting in a way that endangers park users and their pets, the Dog Warden Services are contacted immediately with a view to investigating and taking any necessary action.

“Neighbourhood Wardens also have powers to deal with dogs that are not on a lead or owners that are not in control of their animal dependent on the specific dog control order at that park.

“Friends of Park groups also act as our eyes and ears on this issue.

“We would urge any member of the public to report such instances of dangerous dogs or owners not in control of their animal.

“We are aware of one particular incident in the Shipley area with regards a dog trainer and the Dog Warden Service has dealt with this accordingly.”
