A DISABLED Bradford woman has been sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for drugs offences.

Rachel Cooper, 40, of Watty Hall Avenue, Wibsey, was charged with three counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs after police served a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act on July 18, 2021.

Crown prosecutor Eleanor Durdy said: “The police found drugs scattered throughout the property, with the majority found in the bedroom."

Ms Durdy said police found 68 grams of cocaine with a street value of £2,495, numerous paper tabs of doc (dimethoxy-chloroamphetamine) worth £2,190 and a quantity of MDA (Methylenedioxyamphetamine) worth £100.

She said police also seized drug paraphernalia - including weighing scales, food bags, and a notebook containing a tick list of names. Police also seized £292 in cash, plus a variety of designer clothes and a Louis Vuitton bag.

Ms Durdy said: “She played a significant role and had an awareness of the scale of the operation.

"Finding the cash and designer clothes showed she was significantly benefitting from the sale of drugs and she was selling directly to users.”

Cooper’s defence solicitor said: “The tragedy of this case is that Ms Cooper has been working hard since she was arrested trying to rebuild her family. She is attempting to build her life back up.

“She is racked by the consequences of what she did and how it affected herself and others.

“She also lost her leg in an accident and has district nurses come in and assist her with her dressings.

“She lost a significant portion of her leg and needs a wheelchair because she can’t use a prothesis because of an infection in her leg.

“I’d like to ask your honour to pass a sentence where she is not sent to prison.”

Recorder Bryan Cox said: “I think three-and-a-half years would normally be an appropriate sentence in your case, but I have decided after examining your circumstances that it would be appropriate to pass a sentence outside those guidelines.

“I’ll pass a sentence of two years in prison to be suspended for two years.

“You’ll have to undertake 30 days of rehabilitation activities.

“You’ve had a difficult life and had a serious injury in 2010, consequent of which you lost part of your leg and require use of a wheelchair.

“You may not get the care you need in prison and I have in mind your family responsibilities.

“You must understand I’ve taken an exceptional course and it’s important that you stay out of trouble and take advantage of the therapeutic help available to you.”
