A BRADFORD school that has high ambitions for all its students has received a ‘good’ rating after an inspection from Ofsted.

Farnham Primary School, in Stratford Road, Little Horton, Bradford, was previously rated as an ‘outstanding’ school by the education watchdog but has fallen since.

The school was visited by inspectors on November 1 and 2.

The report highlighted ‘pupils were proud to be part of this school’s diverse community’ and the school presented many opportunities for collaboration with parents and carers.

Though many children joined the school throughout the year, parents expressed how pleased they were with the school and how quickly their child settled into routines.

The report said: “Warm and strong relationships between adults and pupils are seen across the school. Most pupils are polite and respectful of others.

“In lessons, behaviour is generally positive. Where the learning intention is clear, pupils settle to work quickly.

Inspectors noted some children lacked focus and became distracted when tasks didn’t fully meet their needs.

The report also highlighted attendance rates were improving and the school ‘promotes and rewards high rates of attendance’ as well as showing students and parents the consequences of missing school and the impact it can have on their education.

Furthermore inspectors found the school had high ambitions for all its students  and ‘there is a clear aim for pupils to achieve well during their time in the school’.

The school’s curriculum was commended as the report states: “Most pupils leave the school prepared well for the next stage of their education.

“Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported well in class.

“Skilled adults usually provide appropriate levels of support. They foster a culture of developing independence. This means that pupils with SEND do not become overly reliant on the support they receive.”

The safeguarding measures at this school have been deemed effective but inspectors found that at times it was ‘too generic’ in its approach.

Mrs B Bains, Headteacher, said: “We are delighted on achieving a Good judgement in our latest Ofsted Judgement.

“There is much to be proud of as a result of the hard work and commitment by the staff team, pupils and parents of the school.

“Farnham Primary school sits at the heart of a diverse community and the inspectors commented on the warm, strong relationships between all adults and pupils.

“This is vital as it allows us to work together to help children reach their full potential. The report acknowledges the school’s high ambitions for all pupils and that pupils leave well prepared for the next stage of their education.  We are very proud of our successes.”
