A POLICE team conducted vehicle checks targeting potential "morning after" drink drivers.

Officers from the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing team conducted early morning vehicle checks on Bradford Road in Cleckheaton this past Sunday (December 10).

They stopped in excess of 80 vehicles and spoke with those behind the wheel regarding the dangers of driving after a night of drinking.

During the operation, several road policing offences were dealt with by way of a fixed penalty.

However, all drivers who were stopped were under the drink-drive limit.

PCSO Dyson said: “This operation was part of several forthcoming days of action on the run-up to Christmas as part of West Yorkshire Police's enhanced campaign regarding drink and drug driving.

“Drink and drug driving can have a massive impact on people, with devastating consequences.

“Our days of action will continue on the run-up to Christmas, targeting different times, days and locations within Batley and Spen, with a view to safeguarding safe and legal road users.

“It was pleasing to see that none of the drivers today were over the limit, and we received several positive comments from motorists thanking us for being proactive in dealing with these offences.”
