A MAN with a "flagrant disregard" for court orders has escaped jail for texting a woman.

Nathan Mouatt, 34, of Bank, in Idle, Bradford, was sentenced for two counts of breaching a non-molestation order, at Kirklees Magistrates' Court last Tuesday.

He had pleaded guilty to the offences at an earlier hearing, on October 16.

Mouatt texted a woman twice on October 13 and once the day after, despite being banned from doing so by a non-molestation order that was imposed by Bradford Family Court on April 19 this year, court records show.

Non-molestation orders are similar to restraining orders.

The 34-year-old was handed an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Court records show the reason for a jail term was because Mouatt has a "flagrant disregard for people and their property" and "court orders".

His sentence was suspended due to his guilty pleas and pre-sentence report.

Mouatt was handed a restraining order in relation to his victim, which prevents him from going to a house in Idle, or a restaurant in the Greengates area.

It also bans Mouatt from communicating with the woman - whether by letter, telephone, text message, or other means - except through her solicitors.

Mouatt must complete up to 40 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days as part of his sentence.
