A BINGLEY woman who puts community at the heart of everything she does has been recognised for her work at a Downing Street event.

Maureen Carney was nominated by Shipley MP Philip Davies after MPs were invited to choose a community champion to attend the Local Community Safety Champion reception.

She said: “I was very surprised but delighted to be nominated by Philip for this event.

“I really enjoyed the event and have the opportunity to visit No10 as well as meet all the other volunteers across the country.”

The event was one of a series of events organised by Downing Street to recognise people across the country involved in community life.

Mr Davies said: “Maureen is a fantastic champion for Bingley and cares very much about the town and wants it to thrive.

“I am delighted she was chosen to attend the event as a way of recognising everything she does that I, along with everyone else very much appreciate.”

Cllr Carney also sits on Bingley Town Council.
