Don’t we just love our Christmas jumpers.

Emblazoned with reindeer, Santas, snowmen, elves, Christmas puddings, crackers and all manner of things festive, we can’t get enough of them.

That’s the trouble: even if you already own one, every year more appear, in more wacky designs. So out we go and buy another one.

No one knows who invented the Christmas jumper, however, it has a long history that dates back to the 19th century.

Christmas jumpers can be traced back to Iceland and Scandinavia where they were knitted by hand to keep people warm during the winters.

They are not just bringing a smiles to our faces, they are keeping us warm too.

We are also buying them for our pets - dogs can be spotted out and about sporting wonderful seasonal outfits.
