A BRADFORD man was left "feeling sick" when he saw a millipede on his table at a popular carvery chain.

Robert Tallant, 34, from Eccleshill, visited the Horsforth branch of Toby Carvery, on Sunday and said he was "regretful" he had eaten there when he saw the creature on the table after the plates had been cleared.

Toby Carvery has apologised for the incident, but said millipedes offer "no risk to health" and said it appeared after the diners had finished their meal.

They were given a refund as a gesture of goodwill.

Mr Tallant, a frequent visitor of the carvery, was dining with three other people and ordered four carveries.

After eating, they saw the millipede on the table.

He said: “Our plates had been cleared and we saw it on the table. I quickly whipped my phone out and got a picture of it.

“The waitress came over and we told her and she called the manager, who apologised and said don’t pay for your food.

“I’m a little regretful that we had eaten there. I was left feeling sick and queasy.”

Mr Tallant claims a couple of heads turned in their direction to see what the commotion was, but the group didn’t want to cause a scene.

Mr Tallant said: “They didn’t ask us to pay for the meal, so it was something but nevertheless we won’t be eating back there.

The group claimed they saw two millipedes on the table but were unable to get a picture of the second as they wanted to leave the restaurant.

A spokesperson for Toby Carvery said: “As a five-star food hygiene-rated restaurant we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety.

“Therefore, we were sorry that in a recent visit, a guest was alarmed to see a millipede around their table area.

“Although this insect offers no risk to health and appeared after the guest had finished dining, we took the unusual step of offering the guest a refund as a gesture of goodwill.”
