POLICE have launched an investigation after a haul of weapons was seized from a vehicle involved in a car fire in Bradford.

Emergency services were called last night to the scene of a car fire on Beck Hill in Buttershaw.

A spokesperson from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call from a member of the public at 6:37pm last night regarding a car fire on Beck Hill, Buttershaw.

"We sent a crew from Odsal which arrived on scene at 6:44pm. Upon arrival, weapons were found; we therefore requested the police to attend, who arrived on scene at 6:56pm.

"The fire was put out, no one was injured and we left the scene at 8:15pm.”

A spokesperson from Bradford South Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Officers from Bradford South NPT T2 have attended Beck Hill in Buttershaw to assist the fire service with a report of a vehicle on fire.

"The vehicle involved is suspected to be involved in crime and upon searching it weapons were found inside.

"These weapons have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation around the circumstances of the fire.

"The weapons were also recovered as part of the police's Operation Sceptre."

West Yorkshire Police is currently taking part in a national operation in relation to knife crime. it runs until November 19.

The spokesperson added: "The purpose of this week of action is to raise awareness around knife crime in our communities and to encourage our communities to be vigilant.

"We can only do the job we do with your help, cooperation, and information. Please continue to report incidents of this nature to us."
