A SPEEDER has escaped a driving ban as he would lose his job as a plumber and he is the sole "breadwinner" for his family.

Sokdeep Heer, 40, of Lorne Street, in Bowling, Bradford pleaded guilty to speeding over 30 miles per hour on a restricted road, at Harrogate Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

He was caught, by a manned camera, driving above the 30mph limit on Church Road (B6252), at Thornton-in-Craven in a white Ford Transit van on January 20 this year.

The 40-year-old was handed three points by the court but did not get a totting disqualification due to his mitigation.

Court records said Heer would lose his employment as a plumber as he must carry tools and no other mode of transport would be suitable.

They added: "Defendant is the sole breadwinner for his wife and three children.

"Mortgage would not be paid and home would be put at risk."

But the court warned Heer he cannot use the same argument again for three years.

He was ordered to pay the court £332 in total, including a £173 fine, a surcharge of £69 to fund victim services and £90 in costs.
