WELL done Aldi, which has announced it will be closed on Boxing Day, giving staff a festive break.
“We recognise that Christmas is an important time for many of our colleagues. Keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day gives them more time to spend with their families,” says a spokesman for the chain. Hear hear!
Supermarkets don’t need to open on Boxing Day. With enough planning, customers can cope without shopping for two days. It’s time shop staff had a decent break. When my nephew had a Saturday job in a store he had to get up at 3am for his Boxing Day shift. Customers were already queueing, and were rude and aggressive to staff. It put him off retail for life.
