FIREWORKS were seized and police vehicles were damaged during Bonfire patrols.

Four Special Constables in Bradford from West Yorkshire Police helped officers on Bonfire Night deal with a number of issues and had "some positive outcomes".

This included seizing fireworks and taking some youths home.

Bradford Special Constabulary also shared on X, formerly Twitter, a picture of a police vehicle with a smashed windscreen.

The team said: "Unfortunately this is one of the few police vehicles damaged by bricks/fireworks thrown at officers and vehicles."

Meanwhile, the Leeds North-West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) - which covers areas such as Guiseley, Horsforth, Otley, Rawdon and Yeadon - conducted a test-purchasing operation in the run-up to Bonfire Night.

This was to "ensure local shops were checking ID before selling age-restricted goods such as fireworks", according to the team on a Facebook post from Monday.

Officers checked nine retailers and one failed by selling the fireworks pictured below.

The team said: "Appropriate action has been taken in that case."

It added: "We do these operations year-round, for all different kinds of age-restricted items.

"If you are responsible for a shop that sells age-restricted items, please ensure all staff are confident in checking ID before any sales are made."
